The Hampshire Judo Academy is a new initiative to provide a development programme for Judo to Hampshire.
The primary focus of the Academy is to deliver a development pathway for young Judo athletes from age 12 to age 18. We aim to take them from recreational club players through to being ready to move into training at a performance training centre like the University of Bath or Camberley Judo Club.
The Academy project is about the Olympic sport of Judo, as opposed to the recreational, educational or martial art activity of Judo. We are focussed on athletes and sporting endeavours. We acknowledge there is a difference between what occurs in a majority of Judo clubs and what is required for the development of Judo athletes.
We believe that young athletes need better preparation before entering training for performance and aim to help develop the opportunities for Hampshire based young athletes to prepare and transition from club, to squad and through to training for performance at a elite training centre. Our current destination training centres are Camberley Judo Club and Bath University. We do not encourage young Hampshire athletes go to the BJPI.
